Chapoose Canyon Adventures

The Best Family Vacation in the West!

"Desolation Canyon" is a Grand Canyon-like section of the Green River named by John Wesley Powell during his legendary 1869 trip from Green River, Wyoming, to the Grand Canyon. The area was inhabited by the ancient Fremont culture 1000 years ago and by hearty pioneers and outlaws in the 19th Century. Today, Desolation is a National historic landmark with many reminders of past inhabitants, including rock art and abandoned ranches. The Desolation Canyon rapids are Class I – III, mild to moderate. This is not a big whitewater trip, but it provides plenty of excitement (especially if you choose to float in one of our inflatable kayaks) and is perfect for kids age 5 and up. We even allow family dogs!
