Having been inspired by his time in the Peace Corp and his love for the outdoors, Rick Sweitzer of Wilmette, IL started a small adventure travel company based out of Wilmette in 1984. Today, The Northwest Passage remains a small business of 4 full-time employees and a little over 2 dozen part-time guides and instructors. Though small in numbers, we are quite large in adventure! Our destinations are everywhere from Gillson Park right here in Wilmette to some of the great Midwestern wilderness areas to several countries throughout Europe, Central America, South Africa and even the North and South Poles. In fact, in May of 1993 The Northwest Passage made its mark in the world of adventure travel by leading the first-ever commercial dogsled expedition to the North Pole!
