Guided Fly Fishing Trips

Light tackle angling on the lower Snake River reservoirs between Idaho and Washington. We practice catch and release for bass and trout. The Big Lost River - This river originates in Copper Basin, where remnants of mining activities in the late nineteenth century can still be seen. This is where the North Fork, East Fork, West Fork, and Wildhorse Creek all come together to form the Big Lost River. At this point the main Big Lost begins with another 20 miles of accessible flywater abounding with caddis, golden stones, and several types of mayflies. From here, the Big Lost runs parallel with Highway 93, where the river winds it’s way through spring creeks and private ranches. Approximately six miles from the town of Mackay, Mackay Reservoir begins. Although Wood River Outfitters doesn’t offer guided trips on the reservoir, it would still be worth checking out on your own. The reservoir offers excellent float tube fishing in early summer when the water surrounds the willows at the upper end. Mackay Reservoir has two boat ramps and a BLM campground. It is known for it’s rainbows and kokanee and has recently been designated as a Family Fishery by Idaho’s Dept. of Fish & Game.
