The Upper New River
Upper New River rafting is characterized by long, lazy pools mixed with a few moderate Class I- Class III rapids. It can be a leisurely float trip or a low impact paddling experience. Either way, this is a great way to spend a day on the river.
The Upper New River is a scenic, playful introduction to whitewater rafting that is perfect for families with young children (age 6 and up) or adults looking for a relaxing river rafting trip. The Upper New is the perfect place for fun family vacations. There's nothing more rewarding than watching your kids learn to love outdoor adventures that the entire family can enjoy together for years to come.
On this trip you have the option of an added challenge in a ducky (inflatable Kayak), although the refuge of a guided raft is never far away. Extreme Expeditions offers the use of one person and two-person duckies. We encourage everyone to give it a try at least once.
The Upper New River is a great place to paddle, swim, spot wildlife, take pictures, soak up the sun or just relax. This adventure is set in a magnificent canyon surrounded by natures beauty - an unforgettable trip for anyone.
The Lower New River
The Lower section of the New River is one of the most popular whitewater rafting trips in the country. Here high volume water narrows as it makes its way through the gorge and tumbles over giant boulders to form "America's best whitewater." Mild rapids mark the beginning of the trip while they gradually increase in size and difficulty from Class II to Class V, making this a great trip for beginners (age 12 and up) as well as experienced river rafters. Between rapids you will find plenty of calm water, so you can swim, relax or just enjoy the scenery.
Different seasons bring different adventures. Expect chilly higher water in early spring, which warms comfortably and returns to normal levels in the summer months. Fall rafting offers vibrant foliage in addition to great whitewater.
Spectacular scenery and wildlife remain where coal-mining town once flourished along the banks of the New River. Guides often recount the history and lore of the area, even adding some of their own flavor to the story.
Lower New River rafting is truly a classic river experience that will awaken your sense of adventure while nature does its part to soothe your spirit. You will come away from the day with a few new comrades, a feeling of accomplishment, and an eager anticipation of your next river rafting adventure.
Let Extreme Expeditions be your host for a fun day of rafting. See for yourself the difference a small outfitter can make. The Lower New River is genuinely a unique rafting experience that can be shared by novice and expert paddlers alike.
